Ipecac (Ipecacuanha)

Ipecac  is one of the most important nausea remedies, particularly for morning sickness. Also for a loose rattling cough which causes one to gag or vomit. Ipecac should also be considered to help someone who is bleeding heavily (always seek medical advice / opinion should bleeding be severe or not stop).

  • Persistent nausea and vomiting (especially when symptoms are not relieved by vomiting)
  • Nausea which may have been caused by eating rich food. The person may have a revulsion even at the smell of food and they may have a cold sweat.
  • Morning sickness
  • Profuse secretion of mucus (a person needing this remedy would salivate profusely and have mucus in their tubes causing them to cough (consider for recovery from Whooping Cough or lingering cough which causes gagging).
  • Clean tongue
  • Thirstless
  • Haemorrhage (seek medical attention immediately)
  • Irritable and restless (child does not know what they want).
  • This condition may also be after they have been vexed or embarrassed about something. Possibly they may have been punished for something. Arsenicum is more furious than this remedy.
  • Pale face with sunken eyes and slightly open mouth.
  • Worse: food, motion, hot and humid weather, cold.
  • Better: rest with eyes closed

Note: If the symptoms change but do not disappear, Arsenicum follows this remedy well.
