Dealing With Menopause

What is wrong with Menopause?

Absolutely nothing, in fact it is a normal process for the body to go through when it is no longer necessary, or safe for the body to become pregnant.

For some, Menopause is like a gentle changing of the guard, where one stage of life is seamlessly replaced by another, with periods ebbing and easing, some slight awareness of temperature changes and some thickening around the middle.  Others however experience Menopause like a plane dropping out of the sky as their hormone levels rapidly drop, with the symptoms being far more severe and even debilitating.

The first stage is Perimenopause and happens up to 10 years before Menopause – usually in your forties but there are exceptions to this age. This stage can take anywhere from a few months to many years and varies greatly in intensity. During perimenopause your ovaries produce less and less oestrogen until they stop releasing eggs.

For those who have had a hysterectomy or with some medications, this process is sudden.

Symptoms of Menopause include:

  • Irregular Periods
  • Night Sweats / Hot flushes (or power surges as I like to call them)
  • Mood changes
  • Insomnia
  • Metabolic Syndrome: Increased weight, blood glucose irregularities, increased inflammation.

Post-Menopause is considered to be the 12 month period after your last menstrual period and you can no longer get pregnant.

The things that can impact healthy hormonal changes are the usual suspects for hormonal health:

Stress, inflammation, blood glucose irregularities, toxicity, medications, thyroid health, and the all-important process of hormone detoxification.
